Bursitis

What is Bursitis?

Bursitis is often a finding on medical imaging in which the bursa is inflamed or thickened. Bursae are small, fluid filled sacs, which are an important part of the joint, as they help muscles glide over bones. Whilst not necessarily always a problem or the source of potential pain, bursitis can still contribute to a painful state.

Often bursitis occurs in the shoulder, knee, elbow or hip.

Symptoms

Symptoms of Bursitis include:

  • Pain

  • Swelling

  • A loss of range of motion due to pain or swelling

  • Potentially warmth/redness.
